This is the first time we ever asked Dana to retrieve. As you can
see, she is a NATURAL! We have also worked with her on introducing
the bird wing on the pole with the command "whoa". We try to start
all of our puppies this way. It makes it easier when you put live
birds in front of them, they start to associate the command with the
smell/look of the bird. Yard work is essential!
UPDATE JAN 2010:
Dana was entered into the hunt tests in Jan 2010. She failed the Junior Hunt
tests because her range was not fit for foot hunters. She ranges 100+ yards with
the confidence of a pro at just 8 months old! The judges were disappointed to
see her in the hunt tests and not the field trials in Jan 2010.
She will be entered into the puppy/derby stakes of the
horseback or walking field trials in the winter 2010/2011 in Texas. She has an
awesome nose and fantastic temperament. She has shown all the signs of taking
after her grandfather and great-grandfather. We hope to see her have a FC title
at a young age!
More updates will come in the following trial season.
